When was the last time you restarted it?

Why it doesn't do no more laptop good?

I'm serious, you, the reader. When did you last restart your computer?

Every once in awhile a (usually Apple) user will come to me wondering why suddenly their computer does not want to connect to a WiFi network, or why it won't charge, or why the machine is sluggish and why can't they have 87 tabs open in Chrome?



Once such instance walked into my office with a question mark on his face just a moment ago. In fact, I'm typing this while his Mac restarts for the first time in months since I already know that it will work when it comes back up.

The Mac has verbally thanked me and is now working again - WiFi and all. And wouldn't you know it, it works because I gave the heavily frowned upon IT guy quote "have you tried restarting it?". The user has left now, he is happy, but there are more... so many more.

They will come and I will ask the same question. They will think I am procrastinating by asking this basic, logical question. Then their Laptop will begin to magically work as if by mere proximity to my desk the machine was healed once they have done as I requested.

I will type a demoralizing blog post about them, and they might read it, but probably not because my tab was number 13 of 87, and I just yelled at them about keeping tabs open.
